Chris Godwin

WR, Buccaneers

1200px-U+25CB.svg.png

Chris Godwin had a massive breakout season last year, with 86 receptions for 1,333 yards and 9 touchdowns in 14 games (98 receptions for 1,523 yards and 10 touchdowns over the course of an entire season). The guy was one of the best receivers in fantasy without question, and now Tom Brady is replacing Jameis Winston, which is a massive deal for Godwin. Brady loves to throw the ball short and Godwin’s strength is short passes. Godwin was third in the NFL in yards after the catch per target last season and only 14.9% of his targets came on deep passes. Regardless of whether or not you think Brady will be able to throw it deep or even be good in Tampa Bay, Godwin will do very well. In fact, he probably will do better than he did last year because Jameis Winston’s playing style is more catered towards Mike Evans than Godwin, so Evans was almost always the first read. It will be the opposite with Brady, as Godwin will be playing the Julian Edelman role for this offense. We know what Julian Edelman did with Tom Brady, and I think everyone can agree that Godwin is much more athletic than Edelman. Because of this, expect a huge season from Godwin next year.
